Hello!

Welcome to The Writer’s Assistant

I edit fiction manuscripts in all stages of development to help you refine, overhaul, tweak, fix, and perfect them.

My editor’s promise to you as a writer is that I will always be honest, respectful, and kind; that I will offer not only criticism but suggestions; that I will do my best to help your writing reach its potential; and that I will respect your style, voice, and opinions.  It is your work, not mine, and your name that goes on the final product. I will tell you what I see and what I believe would do the most good, and you do with it what you will.

I’m passionate about what I do, and you can trust that I will be fully invested in your project once I take it on, because I love seeing great writing get even better.

Take a look around and drop me a line if you have any questions. I’d love to see what you’re working on!

-Jana

What I Edit

I do my best work when I love the material. The following are my favorite genres, but feel free to ask about others. I like to stick with clean books (nothing R-rated) in the following Children’s, Young Adult, and Adult genres:

  • Fantasy & Science Fiction
  • Romance
  • Christian/Inspirational
  • Historical Fiction
  • Contemporary Lit
  • Suspense/Mystery

Jana is incredible! I want a mini version of her perched on my shoulder every time I write. Her comments, observations, and suggestions are thought out and detailed. She goes all-in. Also, she doesn’t just tell you when something is weird or off or wrong, but she’ll tell you *why* and then offer possible suggestions to fix it. That is different than my previous experiences with editors and beta readers.

You know those parts in your novel that your subconscious knows are not quite right but you don’t really know how to deal with them? Jana is like this bright light that finds all of those parts (even the ones you didn’t realize were off) and helps you sort out how to clean them all up. Not once did i disagree with one of her suggestions. And she’s funny, so there’s that. 🙂

Hands down, the best money you can spend on getting your work polished.
